Poli Sci. Globalisation. why are voters so anxious? …. well, big picture wise, let’s take post WW2, real income for middle to lower middle class families have remained stagnant and/or lowered. while cost of key areas of life: housing, healthcare, higher ed, transportation, energy, have all increased steadily. add in job insecurity plus structural debt, and we have an environment made for polarisation, populism, politics of anger, etc. all of these elements are explosive enough — layer on top of this social media, and elements of our global political landscape make far more sense. remember too, this is not a uniquely American issue — globalisation touches every corner of this globe, and so there are echoes of this all across the world.
